I had a conversation with a college buddy the other day about being young and rich. Since he was a teenager, he has dreamed of being among the wealthy, with the designer clothes, high end cars, and extravagant lifestyle. I admit that I’ve had similar aspirations. Who didn’t? Fortunately, I’ve grown up a lot since then.

Granted my friend isn’t financially irresponsible. He does have aspirations of starting a good career and possibly getting his own business. He hopes that one of these options will make him the next bazillionaire. This got me thinking.

Some of my favorite sites are those about entrepreneurship. Many of the young entrepreneurs I read about dream of starting the next Facebook or YouTube in hopes of becoming a superstar billionaire. With their wealth, several of them want to live the lavish life, similar to Paris Hilton and other superstars.

But if you’ve started the next big internet thing, or you’ve landed a high salary career… will you have time to live like Paris? I’ve never seen news reports of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder/CEO, spending nights partying. I would think he’s busy building his company (especially with their rumored IPO).

Unless you were born into a rich family, win the lottery, or inherited some money… the young and rich lifestyle doesn’t seem reachable anytime soon. And I doubt I’ll party like a rockstar at age 60.

    Hey, Dennis,

Totally unrelated, but I posted the answer to your questions about Alexa over on my site.

    Hello,

I like your blog. Would you tell me what plugin you are using to create your “Subscribe to Pro Money Blog” and “Share this entry with others” buttons?

    Keep up the good work.

Party like a rockstar! haha. Great post yet again, interesting subject. I think it depends on what kind of company and the success of it.

Facebook could have sold for a billion but decided against it. If it did, Zuckerberg would have a lot more free time I bet;). It all depends on how hard you want to keep working.

I personally think that if I slack, I will lose sight of my goals and myself. Working hard is an important thing in life, you can make or break yourself but you’ll never know unless you put yourself to the test.

Good points. I think we all want that lavish lifestyle somewhere deep down even though we know that it’s probably not going to happen. I guess the idea of seemingly doing nothing all day and going out at night seems appealing but that fact is, maybe us (my included) has a full time job plus the web stuff on the side, so I doubt I’ll be living that lifestyle anytime soon either. It’s fun to dream though, right?
