This was bound to happen. I guess its all the more pronounced with my upcoming trip to Florida at the end of this month. I miss college.
Well, I don’t miss the stress of it all. I hated studying and attending class. Most of my classes felt mundane and left me unfulfilled. This has become even more apparent now that I’m in the ‘real world’.
What I do miss is all the people. I’ve mentioned before that I was highly active on campus. I enjoyed being involved in student organizations and working on projects that impacted the campus community. Although there were times of stress that resulted from my involvement, the sense of accomplishment from overcoming those challenges overshadowed any problems I encountered.
I also miss hanging out with my fraternity brothers. No, we weren’t the get wasted every day of the week type folk. We were a bunch of goof balls that just hung out. A group of the guys are getting together this weekend for golf and greasy food dining (yum!). Too bad I’m not in Florida this weekend =( .
I’m a sappy guy eh? haha. Man, I can’t wait for Labor Day weekend. Even more, I can’t wait till I finally return to Florida next year.
For some reason, I’ve navigated toward Christian music during my daily commute. To be honest, I’m not a hardcore Christian or anything; I don’t go to Church on Sundays and I haven’t memorized every passage from the bible. Nonetheless, I’ve found Christian music to be a nice change.
I’m sure many of you have noticed that much of the mainstream music you hear on the popular R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, and/or Pop stations discuss the same things in their lyrics. They’re mostly about partying, finding a hot chick/dude, ending a relationship, finding love… etc. Take a look at Billboard’s Top 100 yourself, and see what I mean.
When I listen to Christian music, I find a refreshing sense of purpose in the song. And no, its not like those old gospel songs. These songs are modern, hip, and actually quite fun to listen to. Think Sister Act (I love that movie =X).
The music is a pretty good pick-me-up in the morning. It gets me all “pumped” for work, in a more spiritual way, haha. For the most part, Christian music is very uplifting. It talks about encountering struggle and having the faith to overcome those challenges. I think this is something we all need in our lives.
Oh, and Country Music is good too. But I won’t write about that, I’m too ashamed haha, jk!
Now if I only knew the title of those songs… =)
