I just realized that I have been blogging for a long time. 4 years to be exact. My blogging days began in 2003 when I started using Xanga.com. Ah, the good ol’ xanga days, haha.
Back then, xanga was a social thing. All of my friends were on the site and we regularly posted about their lives. In a nosey sort of way, I enjoyed reading about the happenings in their lives. News about my friends seemed more pertinent than any national newspaper. (Kinda bad, I know) I was consumed with rants about college and pictures from parties. Oh, and the gossip was great =) . You know, the he said she said stuff… but with people you know.
I was, for better or worse, engaged in the same type postings/ramblings.
As I got older and graduation seemed more and more eminent, my entries matured. I no longer ranted about partying, but about job hunting. My interest was in money and money management. As a result, I navigated away from Xanga and discovered other blogs (courtesy of Google).
The financial and entrepreneurial blogosphere was great! My nosiness now involved the lives of strangers. I enjoyed reading about their success and failures in finding the optimum way to manage finances. I was also intrigued by how young entrepreneurs were starting successful businesses all while they were attending school.
Through these blogs, I was inspired to start my own. In fact, I had a little epiphany when I realized that Xanga was making money off the content on my Xanga blog! Psshh, screw that. Thus, Young Money Blog was formed in May of 2006. Since then, I transitioned to this site a few months ago.
Like my Xanga days, I enjoy reading about the lives of others. Blogs are more personal than the traditional newspaper. Theres a sense of legitimacy… and even reality in the content. Although reading about facts and data can be entertaining, I still prefer blogs.
On Pro Money Blog, it isn’t my goal to write essays about my theories on personal finance. I am here to share with you what I experience in real life, both good and bad. I hope other nosey people enjoy my story =)

3Hey don’t get mad at Xanga since they were making money :P. Whoever owned Xanga didn’t sell it in its prime days and now is stuck with a lower tier website that no one wants to buy now. Well maybe someone but I know I wouldn’t.
I love reading blogs as well. I have so many bookmarked in my favorites it’s not even funny. I just like reading what others opinions and what they have to say.

4A lot of my friends were on Xanga – it was kinda cool because you could give props and stuff like that.
I was a Livejournal user – I liked how it was a community within a community. And the options to customize my journal were limitless. I was actually able to sell some of my old junk through LJ communities I subscribed to which is why it’s special for me.
I too love blogs- it’s what I read every day aside from the NY Times and WSJ. There’s something of a community with the bloggers you comment and share links with.
